Is Operation Stack reaching an end?
After the disruption this year of ‘Operation Stack’ the Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced that approximately £250m will be put aside to deliver a long term solution to the chaos that has regularly affected the local area.
The decision followed a meeting with the Chancellor and Kent MP’s which was led by our local MP Damian Collins, who has been ‘fundamental’ to the outcome according to the leader of Shepway District Council.
Kent County Council had previously suggested using Westenhanger to deal with the overflow, an idea that both the MP and leader, Councillor David Monk opposed.
After the new announcement, we spoke to Cllr David Monk, who welcomed the new decision. But said it still would not ease the problems of a four day ‘stack’.
