Neon performance after-school clubs return to the Quarterhouse
by Sam Howard
On Tuesday 17th January the Quarterhouse in Folkestone will be hosting the Neon after school performance clubs for children of all ages. This is after continued success in the summer months when the programme was last run.
It’s one of the most varied after-school clubs I’ve seen in Folkestone, and it involves different aspects ranging from Theatre/Dance/Art/Music and the role of Technology. There will be two initial teachers each week – James Middleton who specializes in performance and dance and Sadie Hurley – who specializes in Art. There will also be others with experience in the spoken word, visual arts, puppetry, costume, special FX and digital arts to name a few.
It will give young people a chance to develop their skills, use their imagination and more importantly have fun. They do not require any experience, just a lot of energy, determination and a passion for creativity.
But don’t take my word for it, have a look below at some of the comments made by parents and students from summer 2016 programme:
"Neon was great. It was full of exciting games, new friends and a production at the end which blew our parents away."Louis (Neon 2016)
"It was so much fun! I made lots of new friends and I loved making up stories and acting them. I really enjoyed the art too, especially making the waves for the scenery".
(Robyn aged 9 years).
“Both Lilly and Thomas absolutely loved their week at Neon. They were excited to go every day and thoroughly immersed in the process of the whole thing. They have already asked if they can go next year! As a parent, I thought it was something different, fun, and I was amazed at what had been achieved in just a week.”
(Stephanie, parent of Lilly and Thomas)
The workshops will last for 10 weeks and will take place every Tuesday from the 17th January. Each ten week term costs just £40 per child, and there are three sessions available dependant on age group:
5-8 Years, 4pm – 5pm
9-11 Years, 5.15pm – 6.15pm
12-16 Years, 6.30pm – 7.30pm
