Local councils host Dementia Awareness Conference

The Shepway area hosted its first Dementia Awareness conference on Saturday 14th January 2017, and Academy FM & The Folkestone Status was there to find out more. Shepway District Council (SDC) and Kent County Council (KCC) are working together to make Dementia Friendly Communities in our area.  This is an initiative to make people aware of what it's like to live with dementia - the brain disease that affects 1 in 5 people over the age of 65.

This disease does limit itself to old people; some as young as 20 have developed the progressive disease.  It affects more than memory loss.  Some people find it hard to identify words, or shapes or patterns.  Alzheimer's UK and county councils all over the country are working together to help people from businesses and work places to help make life easier for those with dementia. For more information, contact Tracey.Schneider@kent.gov.uk
