Dads and Kids workshops

.......   No mums allowed!

by Courtney Knowles

Strange Cargo is running a programme of family workshops called Dads and Kids, No Mums Allowed! These are aimed at giving Dads a chance to bring their children along and enjoy creative and hands on activities alongside other Dads who are entertaining their children on Saturday mornings.

There will be a range of different activities to enjoy each week including making clay pots, designing and making badges, drawing, twirler making, plaster casting, making a cotton reel roadster, decorating a pot and planting seeds and lots more.

There will be a team of Strange Cargo artists on hand to help you create wonderful art pieces. You also don’t have to worry about money as the sessions and material are free of charge.

The reason for the sessions not involving mums is because it is known for mums to often be the parent doing the creative bits and bobs, sometimes dads don’t get the chance to join in. It’s also recognized that dads will often look after the children on weekends. Therefore to change it up a bit instead of feeling limited to a burger bar or the pictures Strange Cargo are providing a fun creative morning. It also give fathers the chance to have a bonding session with their child.

Brigitte from Strange Cargo said: “Our initial programme is for 3 weeks, but we hope to be able to repeat it once we can secure more funding.  We offer the workshops free of charge so that everyone who wants to join in has the chance to do so. Thanks to Shepway District Council Cheriton Ward Plan for their support of the programme”.
