Comic Con 2016

Comic Con is a popular arts and comic convention with special guests from Film, TV and the Comic world, where the public and collectors fanatic about this industry get to meet their screen heroes.

Primarily Comic Cons showcased comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film, television, and similar popular arts. But this type of convention has grown to include a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including horror, animation, anime, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, web comis and fantasy novels.

It is also a festival that attracts a variety of people dressing up in characters from Film and TV (known as Cosplaying), to give that extra experience for the public. And generally a great place to meet new friends with similar interests.

The organisers from Planet Folkestone added “we had no idea how popular this event would be in Folkestone, until we had our first go on a smaller scale in 2013 at The Grand Hotel. 2000 people came through the door, which blew us away. And each year since then the event has grown. As the event has now sparked interest nationwide rather than just locally, after 2 years the attendance number has more than doubled so who knows what will happen this year”.

The event is aimed at anyone how has an interest in Comics, TV and Film. Collectors of Guest stars autographs are a growing hobby for the regular Comic Con attendees, who will travel the distance to meet their favourite stars to add to their collection. Comic Cons are also very popular with families as the Children can meet characters they have seen on screen.

“There is quite a bit that is different at this years convention. We have a new line up of actors including Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davison from Dr Who, Julian Glover from Star Wars & Game of Thrones, Miriam Margolyes from Harry Potter and Blackadder and Ray Brooks from Mr Benn to name a few. We also have some very exciting exhibits coming this year including the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones a Retro Arcade Gaming experience where the public can play arcade games such as Pac Man and Space Invaders and a large array of props and exhibits from films. This is something we try to do each year, to offer a variety and a new experience for everyone each time they come to the event”.
