Shepway Brass Academy has been running two years now, and has bands ranging from complete beginners to experienced young musicians. Lessons for all the bands are held at Folkestone Academy and the bands have taken part in concerts and competitions around the south east. The senior band’s next ‘gig’ will be at the Youth Remembrance Concert at the Leas Cliff Hall on 7 November.

Calling all potential young musicians! Come along and have a blast with the Shepway Brass Academy on Saturday 26 September at the Folkestone Academy.

The children’s brass band, which includes over 40 children from around Shepway, rehearses every Saturday in term time at the Folkestone Academy and, thanks to generous national and local funding, Shepway children aged 8-18 can learn to play a brass instrument for an incredible £1 per week.

Shepway Brass Academy is holding an Open Day, and children from 8-18 are welcome to come along and have a go at blowing a cornet, trombone, tuba, baritone or tenor horn. If they enjoy it and want to take it further, they can join the beginners band and very soon learn to play some tunes.

The Open Day will take place on Saturday 26 September between 9.30 and 11.30am. Come along and have a go!
