Folkestone Big Sleep Out 2015
After the success of previous years, the Big Sleep Out has returned for another challenging night to raise funds for the vital work of the Winter Shelter programme for Folkestone’s homeless community.
The Big Sleep out is an opportunity for members of the public to show their respect to the homeless by sleeping outside on the grounds of St.Mary’s primary school with nothing other than a sheet of cardboard. It’s been proven a struggle in previous years with horrific weather soaking the sleepers right through their skin. Obviously people that are living on the streets have no choice other than to deal with it and one of the aims of the event is to highlight what it is like for people who have to sleep rough, therefore luxuries such as tents, camp beds etc. will not be permitted.

For taking part in the event you’ll be rewarded a supper meal, music and a house building competition prize. Although, you can bring your own snacks and drinks but no alcohol; Alcohol will not be permitted at any time, any alcohol brought onto site will be confiscated and you may be asked to leave the event. Any participants arriving at the even intoxicated will be denied access to the site. Smoking will be allowed outside the gates in the designated smoking area, but not inside the school property itself.
You will be sleeping out for one night so that no-one in Folkestone & the Shepway area have to sleep out in the cold during the coldest months of the year. Your sponsorship money will go directly to helping run the Shelter this Winter, which not only provides Shelter, food and companionship – our experienced staff also work with guests to support them in taking positive steps to improve their circumstances.
